My Favourite Architects (MFA) I

I’ve decide to create a list and profile of all my favourite Architects, I’m probably going to be doing these one-a-day for the first week then down to one a week, but hopefully it will give other students or anyone interested in Architecture a list of great Architects to explore.

And who better to start this list than:

Frank Lloyd Wright

Lloyd Wright Beautiful House in Bear Run Pennsylvania

Most famous for his crisp lines and parallels to nature and organic design saw Frank Lloyd Wright become one of the most famous architects in the world. His most famous building is sure to be The Guggenheim Museum in New York, of which the famous white spiral is instantly recognisable.

His fallingwater house in Pennsylvania is one of my favourites, it’s low profile and jutting balconies into the beautiful natural park surrounding it is not only magnificent but also inspirational. The waterfall under one of these cantilevered balconies is an elegant and almost surreal touch.

Wright was a true visionary and his use of precast concrete, glass blocks and zinc window separators are processes we still use today. Much of modern architecture can be attributed to Frank Lloyd Wright, and for that you either love him or hate him, but I know which side of the fence I’m on.
